Day 1: Free activities

Enter Longtan Grand Canyon early in the morning and enjoy a leisurely walk along the creek trail in the cool air, which is especially refreshing in summer; have free activities in the afternoon, and you can also take extra photos of the sky corridor, then return in the evening.

Warm tips: On free activity days, taking a taxi or walking is convenient. Check the route to your destination in advance and mark the shops and attractions you want to visit on the map. Tourists generally report that frequent travelers like to reserve free activity days for local food and streets, to experience the most authentic urban life. According to your situation, keep your ID and wallet separately, and take photos of important documents to store a backup on your phone. In case of loss, you can quickly replace them without affecting your trip.

Day 2: White Horse Temple

Today's Buddhist pilgrimage journey: Following the tour guide from Qiyun Pagoda to the Sutra Repository, we listened along the way and understood the two thousand years of incense offerings at China's first ancient temple; in the afternoon, we strolled around the temple, and in the evening, we rested.

Attraction introduction: A highlight arranged in the itinerary is White Horse Temple, located in the eastern part of Luoyang city. It was first built during the Yongping years of the Eastern Han Dynasty to commemorate the White Horse carrying the scriptures and the initial transmission of Buddhism to the Central Plains. It is honored as 'China's first ancient temple' and is the first government-sponsored temple built after Buddhism was introduced to China. Within the temple, Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, the Great Buddha Hall, and the Hall of Heavenly Kings are arranged along the central axis, with incense offerings extending continuously among red walls and green cypresses for over two thousand years. It is worth mentioning that the temple also contains foreign-style halls donated by Myanmar, Thailand, India, and other countries, presenting a unique landscape of Buddhist culture spreading eastward and returning. My understanding is to first see the main halls along the central axis, then circle to the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, and finally visit the exotic Buddhist halls on the sides to experience cultural integration. Visiting early in the morning when there are fewer people is best, as the morning light on the red walls and ancient cypresses is the most poetic, and it also helps to avoid the peak of tour groups.

Warm tips: Please keep quiet and dress neatly when entering the temple; generally, photography is not allowed inside the halls, and sacred objects should not be touched, but you can make offerings as you wish. Visitors generally report that foreign-style Buddhist halls (Thai, Burmese, Indian courtyards) are highly photogenic and feel more spacious than expected. Note that walking in the international temple area is longer, so keep some stamina. According to the actual situation, respect local customs; dress appropriately when entering religious sites, do not point casually, and a simple greeting can bring goodwill.

Day 3: Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden

Arrive in the morning, walk through the streets restored according to 'Along the River During the Qingming Festival,' watch folk performances and situational shows; try Bianliang snacks at noon, and in the afternoon continue to visit the park or take a night tour of the Song Dynasty Imperial River, experiencing the prosperity of Northern Song Bianjing.

Attraction Introduction: One of the highlights arranged in the itinerary is Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden, Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden is located at Kaifeng, a Song culture-themed park built based on Zhang Zeduan's 'Along the River During the Qingming Festival' from the Northern Song Dynasty, restoring the Rainbow Bridge, Bian River, marketplace, and taverns from the painting, recreating the bustling life of Tokyo Bianliang. The park offers live performances and folk parades throughout the day, with the most famous being the nighttime water performance 'Great Song: Dream of Tokyo,' which uses light and shadow to recreate the grand scenes of the Northern Song capital; during the day, visitors can watch immersive folk performances such as the opening ceremony, Bao Gong welcoming guests, and rich man Wang recruiting a bride. It is also a paradise for Hanfu enthusiasts; wearing a Song-style Hanfu while strolling between the Rainbow Bridge and Bian River allows for perfect ancient-style photos. My understanding is to collect the performance schedule upon entering, plan the must-see shows and night performance times, and then wander and taste food as desired; visiting the market during the day offers the most immersive experience, while the night performance is an audio-visual feast, worth seeing if the budget allows.

Tips: Food prices in the park are relatively high, so it is advisable to bring some water and snacks and carefully keep your personal belongings. Visitors generally find the daytime market walk the most immersive, while opinions about the night show 'Great Song: Dream of Tokyo' are polarizing; note that performance tickets are relatively expensive, so plan according to your budget. Based on actual conditions, group tours may lead to a rushed experience, so listening to explanations is the essence. The cultural stories behind each attraction are often more memorable than photos, so ask the guide on the spot if you don't understand something.

Day 4: Henan Museum

Depart from the hotel early in the morning and head straight to the museum for a 5-day tour. Henan How to spend 5 days Longtan Grand Canyon Classic route recommendation: first listen to the guide's explanation of the background and highlights, then take a leisurely self-guided tour and capture photos according to your interests; after lunch, take a short rest and return to the hotel in the evening to conserve energy for the next day.

Attraction Introduction: One of the major highlights arranged in the itinerary is Henan Museum. Henan Museum is a landmark of Central Plains civilization, with a collection of over 170,000 cultural relics, systematically presenting "Early China" with the main theme of "Flourishing China, Choosing the Center as Capital." Among the museum treasures, the Jiahu bone flute is the earliest playable instrument discovered to date, rewriting the history of Chinese music; the Duling Fangding and Yunwen bronze container are masterpieces of Shang and Zhou bronze casting; the Fuhou Owl Vessel is majestically shaped and tells the legendary story of Fu Hao, wife of King Wu Ding of the Shang Dynasty; in addition, there are national treasures such as the Lotus Crane Square Pot and Wu Zetian's Golden Slips. It is recommended to follow the guide or rent an audio guide, as you can get an overview of the main line of Chinese civilization in two hours. My understanding is that it’s best to first head straight to a few museum treasures to enjoy them, and then visit systematically according to the timeline—grasping the main line is the most efficient; crowds in front of national treasures are common, so knowing the locations of the key exhibits in advance will save the most time.

Tips: The museum is quite large, so comfortable shoes are recommended. You can take short breaks in the resting areas. Visitors generally feedback that most believe Henan Museum is worth a special trip, so it is advised to slow down, follow the guide's explanations, and leave time for the details that move you most and the best photography spots. Depending on your situation, if you want authentic food, venture deeper into the alleys—long queues and average taste are typical at the main entrance; for local specialties, compare prices first, as local supermarkets often offer more authentic products.
