Day 1: Chongdugou

Today's summer escape trip has a relaxed pace, focusing on viewing the tens of thousands of acres of bamboo forests and the cascading waterfalls and streams; the afternoon is free for your own arrangements, and in the evening, accommodation will be at a farmhouse for rest.

Attraction introduction: This stop is at Chongdugou, located in Luanchuan, famous for its vast bamboo forests, waterfalls and streams, and the rural farming scenery of western Henan. It is one of the few 'Jiangnan water town'-style summer leisure destinations in the area. The scenic area is divided into two sections: Jinji River and Dicui River. Jinji River is renowned for its waterfalls, with splashing water and a refreshing atmosphere; Dicui River features continuous bamboo forests, where walking through gives a view full of greenery. Here you can stay at a farmhouse, try wild mountain vegetables, and experience the authentic village life of western Henan. The pace is relaxed, making it particularly suitable for slow-paced family trips and summer vacations. My understanding is to slow down, and not rush to see all the sights—walking in the bamboo forests or sitting by the creek is the proper way to enjoy Chongdugou; visiting in summer is the most comfortable, so cool that you won't want to leave.

Tips: Signal may be poor in the canyon, so arrange meeting points with the guide in advance and avoid going alone. Tourists generally feedback that most visitors consider Chongdugou worth a special trip. It is recommended to slow down, listen to the guide's explanations, and reserve time for the details that move you most and the best photo spots. According to actual conditions, for photography, it's best early in the morning or late in the afternoon—fewer people and soft light in the morning, golden glow at dusk are the best; noon light is harsh and crowded, so it's better to rest at that time.

Day 2: White Horse Temple

Morning tour: Starting from the Shanmen Gate and the Hall of Heavenly Kings to the Great Buddha Hall along the central axis for a detailed look, then to the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard; at noon, try local dishes. In the afternoon, visit Buddhist halls in Myanmar and Indian styles to experience the exotic charm of this thousand-year-old temple.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight arranged in the itinerary is White Horse Temple, located in the east of Luoyang city. It was first built during the Yongping era of the Eastern Han Dynasty to commemorate the white horse carrying the Buddhist scriptures and the initial transmission of Buddhism to the Central Plains. It is honored as "China's first ancient temple" and is the first official temple built after Buddhism was introduced to China. Within the temple, the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, the Great Buddha Hall, and the Hall of Heavenly Kings are laid out along the central axis, with incense burning amid red walls and green cypress trees for over two thousand years. Notably, the temple also has Buddhist halls built with donations from Myanmar, Thailand, India, and other countries in exotic styles, showcasing the unique landscape of Buddhism's eastward spread and return. My understanding is to first see the main halls along the central axis when entering the temple, then circle to the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, and finally visit the side exotic halls to experience cultural integration; visiting early in the morning when there are fewer people is most poetic, with the morning light shining on the red walls and ancient cypresses, and it also avoids the peak hours of tour groups.

Tips: Please maintain quietness and dress properly when entering the temple. Generally, photography is not allowed inside the halls, and sacred objects should not be touched. Perform meritorious deeds according to your ability. Visitors generally report that the exotic-style Buddhist halls (Thai/Myanmar/Indian courtyards) are highly photogenic and feel more spacious than expected; note that the international temple area involves long walking distances, so save some energy for that. Considering practical situations, dehydration is the biggest issue on long trips, so carry a water bottle and drink small amounts frequently. On the first night at a plateau or mountainous area, avoid washing hair or bathing for too long to give your body some time to adapt.

Day 3: Erlitou

Depart early from the hotel and head straight to Erlitou. First, listen to the guide explain the background and highlights, then explore leisurely on your own and take additional photos according to your interests. After lunch, take a short break, and return to the hotel in the evening to conserve energy for the next day.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Erlitou attractions. The Erlitou site is located in Luoyang Yanshi and is praised by scholars as 'the earliest China.' It is a large urban site from the mid-to-late Xia Dynasty. Excavated artifacts include turquoise dragon-shaped objects, bronze jue, bronze ding, and other significant items, revealing the appearance of the first royal capital of China. The turquoise dragon-shaped object is inlaid with more than two thousand pieces of turquoise and is hailed as 'the first dragon of China,' providing important evidence of Chinese dragon worship. The Erlitou site museum presents the archaeological site authentically and is an indispensable stop for studying the origins of Chinese civilization. My understanding is that before visiting, it is helpful to learn about the academic controversies surrounding the 'Xia capital' and then view the exhibits for deeper understanding. The museum's exhibitions are carefully curated and worth exploring at a leisurely pace.

Warm Tips: There is a large temperature difference between morning and evening in the mountainous area, and it is windy at the summit, so a windproof jacket and warm underlayers are necessary. Tourists generally report that most visitors think Erlitou is worth traveling to specifically. It is recommended to slow your pace, listen to the guide’s commentary, and reserve time for the details that move you the most and the best photo spots. Considering practical circumstances, punctuality is important; arrive five to ten minutes early for gatherings. It is better for people to wait for the vehicle than for the vehicle to wait for someone—do not make everyone wait for you.
