【Most travellers with chronic conditions can join our tours, but you must first obtain a doctor's opinion and replace strenuous climbs with cable-car sightseeing or gentler sites.】
Henan's main mountain parks (Laojun, Yuntai and Baiyun) sit roughly between 1,000 and 2,200 metres — low to moderate altitude with no meaningful risk of altitude sickness. The real challenge is ◆ continuous staircases and sustained physical effort.
◆ Three things to do before you travel:
1. ◆ Get a medical assessment: tell your doctor the actual intensity (daily walking distance, number of steps, whether you will summit) and obtain a clear yes or no.
2. ◆ Carry enough medication: pack 1.5 times the trip length, split between your daypack and checked bag so a lost bag does not interrupt treatment. Keep a written list of drug names and dosages to hand to medical staff in an emergency.
3. ◆ Check your insurance: standard accident policies often exclude acute illness, so choose one covering acute medical care and emergency rescue.
◆ Itinerary alternatives:
- Laojun Mountain: take the cable car close to the Golden Summit and skip most steps; we do not recommend hiking to the top.
- Yuntai Mountain: Red Stone Gorge has dense one-way stairs, so switch to the Tanpu Gorge or the Zhuyu Peak cable-car section.
- Longmen Grottoes: the West Hill walkway has many steps, so you can visit only the core Fengxian Temple area and skip East Hill.
- Low-intensity substitutes: Luoyang Museum, White Horse Temple and the Sui-Tang Luoyang City sites are mostly level but rich in content.
◆ Companions and pacing:
- We advise against joining climbing itineraries alone — travel with family or a companion.
- Keep each day to one main site in the morning plus one light stop in the afternoon, with 1–1.5 hours back at the hotel to rest.
◆ Important: The above is itinerary guidance and ◆ not medical advice; only your treating physician can judge fitness to travel. Please disclose health conditions honestly at booking so we can adjust intensity, build in rest points and map nearby medical facilities. Enquiries: 13017648055.
