Day 1: Erlitou

Assemble in the morning and depart for Erlitou. Follow the guide to tour the main attractions, leaving ample time for taking photos and resting; enjoy a local specialty lunch at noon, and check into the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day’s itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Erlitou attractions. The Erlitou site is located in Luoyang Yanshi and is praised by the academic community as the 'earliest China.' It is a large city site from the middle to late Xia Dynasty, where turquoise dragon-shaped artifacts, bronze jue, bronze ding, and other significant items were unearthed, revealing the appearance of the first capital of the Huaxia Civilization. The turquoise dragon-shaped artifact is made of more than two thousand turquoise pieces and is known as the 'First Dragon of China,' serving as important evidence of dragon worship in China. The Erlitou Ruins Museum presents the archaeological site vividly and is an essential stop for studying the origins of Chinese civilization. My understanding is that it helps to first learn about the academic controversies surrounding the 'Xia Capital' before viewing the exhibits for a deeper appreciation; the museum’s exhibition is thoughtfully arranged and worth exploring slowly.

Warm Reminder: Mountainous areas have large temperature differences between morning and evening, and the summit is windy, so a windproof jacket and warm inner layers are necessary. According to general feedback from tourists, most agree that Erlitou is worth a special visit. It is recommended to slow down your pace, listen to the guide’s commentary, and leave time to focus on the details that move you most and the best photo spots. According to your actual condition, manage your energy—tackle the main highlights in the morning when you are fresh, and slow the pace in the afternoon. Don’t exhaust yourself on the first day, or you will have no energy for the following days.

Day 2: Wangcheng Park

Assemble in the morning and depart for Wangcheng Park, follow the tour guide to visit the key attractions, leaving ample time for taking photos and resting; enjoy local specialty cuisine at noon, check in to the hotel in the evening, and recharge for the next day's schedule.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Wangcheng Park. Wangcheng Park is located in Luoyang, named for being situated on the ruins of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty royal city. It has been one of the main venues of the China Luoyang Peony Cultural Festival over the years and is also the city park most familiar to Luoyang residents. Every April, famous peonies such as Yao Huang, Wei Zi, and Zhao Fen bloom in competition, displaying a dazzling array of colors and creating a magnificent spectacle. The park also preserves the ruins of the Zhou royal city and contains a zoo, combining historical significance with leisure functions. It is a classic spot for tourists to experience the "Peony Flower City." In my view, if you come during peony season (April), this place must be listed as a must-visit destination. In the early morning, when there are fewer people, the peonies with dew are the most delicate; outside of bloom season, it is more suitable for a leisurely walk.

Tips: When visiting the park with children, be mindful of the risk of getting separated, agree on a meeting point in advance, and prepare a contact card for your child. According to general tourist feedback, most visitors think Wangcheng Park is worth a special trip. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide's explanations, and leave time for the details that touch you the most and the best photo spots. Take the actual situation into account, respect local customs, dress appropriately when entering religious sites, and refrain from pointing or gesturing improperly—just a polite greeting can receive goodwill.

Day 3: Longmen Grottoes

Gather in the morning and depart for Longmen Grottoes, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing ample time for photos and rest; enjoy a local specialty lunch at noon, check in to the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day’s itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Longmen Grottoes. Longmen Grottoes was carved on the cliff faces along both banks of the Yi River in the south of Luoyang, continuously constructed since the relocation of the Northern Wei Dynasty’s Emperor Xiaowen to Luoyang, spanning multiple dynasties including Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi, Sui, and Tang. It currently has over 2,300 niches, more than 100,000 statues, and over 2,800 inscribed steles. The most astonishing feature is the Vairocana Buddha of Fengxian Temple, over 17 meters tall, with a full face and eyes filled with compassion, said to have been modeled after Empress Wu Zetian, representing the peak of Tang Dynasty stone carving art. Along with the Dunhuang Mogao Caves and the Yungang Grottoes in Datong, it is one of China’s three major grottoes and a World Cultural Heritage site. When visiting, walk south along the Yi River pathway from the West Mountain Grottoes; Binyang, Ten Thousand Buddhas, and Lotus Cave each have points of interest. Crossing the bridge to the East Mountain Worship Terrace offers a panoramic view. I think in the morning, start with the main cave of the West Mountain to enjoy the Buddha while fewer people are around, and in the afternoon, go to the East Mountain terrace for a distant view—this provides the best lighting and angles for photos; walking along both banks of the Yi River requires backtracking, so a pair of comfortable shoes saves effort.

Tips: Visiting the grottoes mainly involves walking and stairs; it is recommended to wear non-slip comfortable shoes and travel light. Watch your step along the Yi River banks. Most tourists report that the Vairocana Buddha is the most impressive, the West Mountain at sunset provides the best photo lighting; walking along the Yi River requires returning the same way, so comfortable shoes and half a day’s time are recommended. Considering the actual situation, the main concern with group tours is rushing through; listening to explanations is the essence. The cultural stories behind each attraction are often more memorable than photos, so ask the guide on the spot if something is unclear.
