Day 1: Erlitou

Gather in the morning and depart for Erlitou, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, leaving ample time for photography and rest; enjoy a local specialty meal at noon, and check into the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: Today’s itinerary includes Erlitou attractions. The Erlitou site is located in Luoyang Yanshi and is regarded by scholars as the 'earliest China.' It is a large city site from the middle to late Xia dynasty, where turquoise dragon-shaped artifacts, bronze jue, bronze ding and other major relics were unearthed, revealing the appearance of the first capital of Huaxia. The turquoise dragon-shaped artifact is made of over two thousand turquoise pieces and is praised as the 'First Dragon of Huaxia,' serving as important evidence of dragon worship in China. The Erlitou site museum presents the archaeology with a sense of on-site experience, making it an indispensable stop for the study of the origins of Chinese civilization. My understanding is that visiting the museum after first learning about the academic debates surrounding the 'Xia capital' provides a deeper understanding when viewing the exhibits; the museum’s displays are carefully curated and worth taking the time to appreciate.

Warm Tips: Mountain paths are often slippery, especially downhill, so pay attention to shifting your center of gravity backward and slow your steps; knee pads may be useful. Feedback from tourists generally indicates that most visitors believe Erlitou is worth a dedicated trip; it is recommended to slow down, listen to the guide’s explanations, and leave time for the details that touch you most and the best photo spots. Considering actual conditions, mountain weather can change quickly, so a windproof jacket is essential; shoes must be non-slip and comfortable—better to take fewer photos than to sprain your ankle.

Day 2: Laojun Mountain

Gather in the morning and depart for Laojun Mountain, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing plenty of time for photos and rest; have a local specialty meal at noon, check into the hotel in the evening, and rest up for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Laojun Mountain, located in Luanchuan County, Luoyang. It is the main peak of Funiu Mountain and a famous Taoist mountain, traditionally known as the place where Laozi, the founder of Taoism, retreated and cultivated. The Jin Ding Taoist temple complex stands atop a peak more than 2,000 meters above sea level, with golden-tiled temples and red walls amid rolling clouds, earning it the reputation of "traveling far for a breathtaking feast, to witness the splendor of the world." The Shili Huaping (Ten-Mile Painted Screen) is a highlight of the trip—a high-altitude plank road suspended along a cliff, offering changing views of forested peaks, clouds, and the sunrise. You can take a two-stage cable car to the summit; on clear days, you can enjoy the sea of clouds and sunrise, while in winter, it is a popular spot in Central China for snow viewing. My understanding is that you should take the cable car early to catch the best light at the Jin Ding and Shili Huaping; the mountaintop is windy and cold, so a windbreaker and thermos are essential, and those who are afraid of heights should not force themselves to stand on the glass observation deck.

Tips: The hiking routes have many steps and steep slopes, so be sure to wear non-slip athletic shoes; those with mobility issues are advised to use the cable car. Visitors generally report that the sea of clouds and sunrise at Jin Ding are the major highlights, and many stay overnight on the mountain to catch dawn. Note that the mountaintop has large temperature differences and long cable car queues, so during peak season, go early. When shopping, don’t act on impulse; if you see a "limited-time offer," take three minutes to calm down. If you really want to buy souvenirs, make sure to choose official stores and keep the receipts for peace of mind.

Day 3: Yin Ruins

Gather in the morning and depart for Yin Ruins, follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing ample time for taking photos and resting; enjoy a local specialty meal at noon, check in to the hotel in the evening, and recharge to prepare for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Yin Ruins attractions. Yin Ruins is the late Shang Dynasty capital site, located in Anyang. It is the birthplace of oracle bones and also the origin site of the Houmuwu Ding (originally called Simuwu Ding), which was listed as a World Cultural Heritage site in 2006. This was once the capital city after King Pan Geng of the Shang Dynasty moved to Yin, lasting over 270 years. The remains of palaces and temples, royal tombs, and chariot and horse pits are clearly visible. Oracle bones were first discovered here, raising the starting point of Chinese historical records to the Shang Dynasty. The new museum of Yin Ruins systematically displays bronzes, jade, and oracle bones, providing the most direct way to understand Shang civilization. My understanding is to first look at the palace and temple ruins and the chariot and horse pits to establish a spatial concept, then go to the museum to examine the artifacts closely; connecting these two lines completes the experience. The oracle bones and heavy bronzes are the highlights, and following the explanations is far better than just browsing.

Tips: There is a large temperature difference between morning and evening in the mountains, and it is windy at the top, so a windproof jacket and warm inner layers are necessary. Tourists generally feedback that oracle bones and the Simuwu Ding make history 'come alive,' and visitors say the new museum is more worthwhile than the open-air ruins; it is recommended to understand the exhibits in combination with the guided explanations. According to practical needs, keep documents and wallet separately, take photos of important documents and store them on your phone as a backup, so in case of loss, they can be replaced quickly without delaying the itinerary.
