Day 1: Henan Museum

Gather in the morning and depart for Henan Museum. Follow the guide to visit the main attractions, allowing ample time for photos and rest; enjoy a local specialty lunch at noon, check into the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Henan Museum. Henan Museum is the landmark of Central Plains civilization, with over 170,000 cultural relics in its collection, systematically presenting "Early China" under the theme of "Magnificent China, Choosing the Center for the Capital." Among the museum's treasures, the Jiahu bone flute is the earliest playable musical instrument discovered so far, rewriting the history of Chinese music; the Duling square cauldron and cloud-patterned bronze ritual vessel are masterpieces of Bronze Age casting from the Shang and Zhou dynasties; the Fuhao owl-shaped vessel has a majestic design and tells the legendary story of Fuhao, the wife of King Wu Ding of Shang; in addition, there are national treasures like the lotus-crane square pot and Emperor Wu Zetian’s gold slips. It is recommended to follow a guided explanation or rent an audio guide; two hours is enough to get an overview of the main thread of Chinese civilization. My understanding is to first head straight to a few key treasures to fully enjoy them, then follow the chronological order to systematically visit, focusing on the main storyline is most efficient; it is common for the national treasure display cabinets to be crowded, so knowing the location of the key treasures in advance and heading straight to them saves the most time.

Tips: Museums generally require a reservation or an ID to get tickets, so please check opening hours and reservation methods in advance. Visitor feedback generally indicates that most people believe Henan Museum is worth a special visit. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide’s explanations, and leave time for the details that move you the most and the best photo spots. Considering practical situations, long trips are prone to dehydration, so carry a water bottle and drink small amounts frequently; in highlands or mountainous areas, avoid washing your hair or bathing for too long on the first night to give your body some time to acclimate.

Day 2: Mount Song

Gather in the morning and depart for Mount Song. Follow the guide to visit the main attractions, allowing ample time for photos and rest. At noon, enjoy a local specialty meal, and in the evening, check into the hotel to rest and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Mount Song. Mount Song is the Central Mountain among the Five Great Mountains, primarily located in Dengfeng City, divided into the Taishi and Shaoshi mountains, with the main peak, Junji Peak, reaching about 1,492 meters in elevation. Its most unique feature is that Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism have coexisted on the same mountain for a thousand years: Songyang Academy was an important center of Neo-Confucianism during the Song Dynasty, and the famous story of 'Chengmen standing in the snow' happened here; Zhongyue Temple is one of the largest and best-preserved temple complexes among the Five Great Mountains; and the Observing Star Tower in Gaocheng Town, built under the supervision of Guo Shoujing in the Yuan Dynasty, is the oldest existing astronomical observation building. In 2010, the historical complex 'Center of Heaven and Earth,' represented by Songyang Academy, Zhongyue Temple, Songyue Pagoda, Shaolin Temple Permanent Monastery, Pagoda Forest, Chuzu Ancestral Nunnery, and the Observing Star Tower, was included in the World Heritage List. My understanding is that on the first day, there’s no need to rush—visit the academy and the temple first to understand the ritual and cultural context of 'Center of Heaven and Earth,' and save energy for the mountain climb later. If time permits, watching the sunset from the plank road at Sanhuang Zhai on Shaoshi Mountain in the evening offers the most photo-worthy views of the entire trip.

Tips: The temperature in the mountains can vary greatly between morning and evening, and the wind at the top can be strong. A windbreaker and warm clothing are necessary. Most tourists generally feel that Mount Song is worth a special visit. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide to listen to explanations, and leave time for the details that move you the most and the most photogenic spots. Be mindful of the schedule, arrive at the meeting point five to ten minutes early; it’s better for the people to wait for the vehicle than for the vehicle to wait for someone, so as not to hold up everyone else.

Day 3: Yin Ruins

Assemble in the morning and depart for Yin Ruins, follow the tour guide to visit the core attractions, allowing ample time for taking photos and resting; have a local specialty meal at noon, check into the hotel in the evening, and recharge to prepare for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: Today’s itinerary includes the Yin Ruins attraction. Yin Ruins is the late Shang Dynasty capital ruins, located in Anyang. It is the birthplace of oracle bone script, as well as the discovery site of the Houmuwu Ding (originally called Simuwu Ding), and was listed as a World Cultural Heritage site in 2006. This was once the capital after King Pan Geng moved the Shang capital to Yin, lasting more than 270 years. The remains of palace and ancestral temple sites, royal tomb areas, and chariot pits are clearly visible. Oracle bones were first discovered here, extending the recorded history of China back to the Shang Dynasty. The new museum of Yin Ruins systematically displays bronzes, jades, oracle bones, and other cultural relics, offering the most direct way to understand Shang civilization. My understanding is that it is best to first see the palace and ancestral temple ruins and the chariot pits to establish a spatial concept, then enter the museum to carefully examine the artifacts. The two lines together form a complete picture; oracle bones and large bronzes are the essence, and following the guide through them is far better than just glancing over.

Tips: The mountain paths are often slippery, especially when going downhill, so pay attention to shifting your center of gravity backward and slow down your steps. Knee pads can be prepared. Visitors generally feedback that the oracle bones and Simuwu Ding make history 'come alive,' and they say the new museum is more worthwhile than the open-air ruins; it is important to view in conjunction with the guide to understand. According to the situation, when taking photos, don't just focus on getting good shots; pay attention to your steps and the surrounding environment, and always hold on and stand firmly at viewing platforms and walkways’ edges.
