Day 1: Longtan Grand Canyon

Gather in the morning and set off for Longtan Grand Canyon. Follow the guide to tour the main attractions, leaving ample time for photos and rest; enjoy a local specialty meal at noon, then check into the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: This stop is Longtan Grand Canyon. Longtan Grand Canyon is located in Xin'an and is a canyon famous for its red rocky cliffs and waterfalls that flow uphill, earning it the reputation of 'the pinnacle of canyons' and 'a natural museum of ancient oceans.' Trails such as Liubu Pond and One Line Sky offer strong water-related fun, with red cliffs and clear turquoise ponds complementing each other. It is especially refreshing in summer and is a convenient family-friendly water destination close to Luoyang city. The canyon stretches for several kilometers, with waterfalls, deep pools, and unusual rocks along the way, offering a new view at every step. In my opinion, wearing anti-slip creek shoes or sports shoes is most suitable, and valuables like your phone should be kept waterproof; families with children should take a slower pace, choose flatter boardwalk sections, and not rush to complete the entire route.

Tips: Signal may be weak inside the canyon, so agree on a meeting point with the guide in advance and avoid going alone. Visitors generally feedback that most believe Longtan Grand Canyon is worth a special trip, so it is recommended to slow down, follow the guide's explanations, and leave time for the details that touch you most and the best photo spots. Based on the actual situation, separate important documents and wallets, take photos of important documents for a backup on your phone, so that in case of loss you can quickly replace them without affecting your trip.

Day 2: Shaolin Temple

Assemble in the morning and depart for Shaolin Temple. Follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, leaving enough time for taking photos and resting; enjoy local specialty lunch at noon, and check in to the hotel in the evening to rest and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Shaolin Temple attractions. Shaolin Temple is located at the foot of Wuru Peak on Shaoshi Mountain in Dengfeng and was first built in the 19th year of the Taihe era of the Northern Wei Dynasty (AD 495). It is both the ancestral home of Zen Buddhism and the birthplace of Shaolin martial arts, with a history of over fifteen hundred years. The main highlights are concentrated in three areas: The Changzhu Courtyard along the central axis includes the Mountain Gate, Hall of Heavenly Kings, Mahavira Hall, Sutra Library, and Lixue Pavilion, with halls and ancient steles laid out in sequence; the Pagoda Forest is the largest existing ancient pagoda complex in China, containing over two hundred brick-and-stone tomb pagodas from the Tang, Song, and Qing dynasties, each corresponding to a notable monk; the Bodhidharma Cave on Wuru Peak is said to be where Bodhidharma meditated facing the wall for nine years. The Martial Arts Hall features daily Shaolin martial arts performances, showcasing true skill in fists, weaponry, and qigong. My understanding is that visitors should first follow the guide along the central axis and then freely examine the details; maintain quiet while visiting the Pagoda Forest and circle the pagodas; for the martial arts performance, arrive fifteen minutes early to secure a good seat.

Tips: Please maintain quiet and dress neatly when entering the temple. Generally, photography and touching ritual implements inside the halls are not allowed, and donations are appreciated. Visitors generally report that the martial arts performances are most popular with families, while the Pagoda Forest and First Ancestor’s Shrine are often overlooked; note that the scenic area is quite commercialized, so check prices for vegetarian meals and surrounding expenses in advance. According to actual conditions, carry some small change and snacks for temporary needs, as signals may be weak in the scenic area or for on-the-spot purchases; don’t wait until you are hungry to look for food.

Day 3: Mount Song

Gather in the morning and depart for Mount Song. Follow the tour guide to visit the main attractions, allowing ample time for photos and rest; enjoy a local specialty meal at noon and check into the hotel in the evening to rest and recharge for the next day's itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight arranged in the itinerary is Mount Song. Mount Song is the Central Mountain among the Five Sacred Mountains, primarily located in Dengfeng City, divided into Taishi and Shaoshi Mountains, with the main peak, Junji Peak, reaching about 1,492 meters in elevation. What makes it most special is that Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism have coexisted on the same mountain for a thousand years: Songyang Academy was an important center for Song Dynasty Neo-Confucianism, and the famous story of 'Standing in the Snow at Cheng's Gate' is said to have occurred here; the Zhongyue Temple is one of the largest and best-preserved temple complexes among the Five Sacred Mountains; and the Guoxingtai (Observatory) in Gaocheng Town, built under the supervision of Guo Shoujing during the Yuan Dynasty, is one of the oldest existing astronomical observation buildings. In 2010, the 'Center of Heaven and Earth' historical complex, represented by Songyang Academy, Zhongyue Temple, Songyue Temple Pagoda, Shaolin Temple Permanent Residences, the Pagoda Forest, Chuzu Hermitage, and the Observatory, was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. My understanding is that there is no need to rush on the first day—start with the Academy and Zhongyue Temple to understand the ritual framework of the 'Center of Heaven and Earth,' saving your energy for the mountain climb later. If time allows, visit the Three Sovereigns Fortress plank road on Shaoshi Mountain in the evening to watch the sunset, which offers the most picturesque segment of the trip.

Tips: The temperature in mountainous areas varies greatly between morning and evening, and it can be windy on the peaks, so a windproof jacket and warm inner layers are essential. Tourists generally report that most visitors feel Mount Song is worth a special trip, so it is recommended to slow down, follow the guide's explanations, and leave time for the details that move you the most and the most photogenic spots. Considering the reality that mountain weather can change rapidly, a windproof jacket is more practical than anything else; certainly choose non-slip, comfortable shoes, and don't risk spraining your ankle for a few extra photos.
