Day 1: Wangcheng Park

Setting off from the hotel early in the morning straight to Wangcheng Park, first listen to the tour guide explain the background and highlights, then explore freely at a leisurely pace and take additional photos at spots of interest; after lunch, take a short rest, and return to the hotel in the evening to accumulate energy for the next day.

Attraction Introduction: One of the highlights arranged in the itinerary is Wangcheng Park. Wangcheng Park is located at Luoyang, named because it is situated on the ruins of the Eastern Zhou royal city. It has been one of the main venues for the Peony Culture Festival of Luoyang for many years and is also the city park most familiar to Luoyang citizens. Every April, famous peony varieties such as Yao Yellow, Wei Purple, and Zhao Pink bloom in competition, creating a spectacular sea of colorful flowers; the park also preserves the ruins of the Zhou royal city and a zoo, combining historical heritage with recreational functions. It is a classic spot for tourists to check in to the ‘Peony Flower City.’ My understanding is that if you visit during the peony season (April), this place should be listed as a must-visit destination, as the mornings are less crowded and the peonies with dew are at their most delicate. Outside the flowering season, it is more suitable for a leisurely walk.

Warm Tips: The food prices in the park are relatively high, so it is appropriate to bring some water and small snacks, and pay attention to keeping your personal belongings safe. Visitor feedback generally indicates that most tourists believe Wangcheng Park is worth a special visit. It is recommended to slow down, listen to the tour guide’s explanations, and leave time for the details that move you most and the best photo spots. Based on the actual situation, the greatest fear in group tours is just rushing through; listening to the explanations is the essence. The cultural stories behind each attraction are often more unforgettable than the photos, so ask the tour guide on the spot if you don’t understand something.

Day 2: Yuntai Mountain

Today's water-friendly trip connects Hongshi Gorge, Tanpu Gorge, and Quanpu Gorge along the trail, with a relaxed pace suitable for the whole family; free time for additional photos in the afternoon, and rest in the evening.

Attraction Introduction: There are a total of several attractions today. One of them is located in Xiuwu. It is one of the first batch of Global Geoparks and is famous for the red cliffs and clear waters of Hongshi Gorge, the waterfalls and flowing springs of Tanpu Gorge, the 'tallest waterfall in Asia' Yuntai Tianpu of Quanpu Gorge, and the cloud sea sunrise of Zhuyu Peak. It is the most representative scenic area of mountains and rivers on the southern slope of the Taihang Mountains. Hongshi Gorge is the essence among the essence, a red quartz sandstone gorge about two kilometers long, with winding clear water at the valley bottom and red cliffs like clouds; Zhuyu Peak is famous due to the Tang dynasty poet Wang Wei's line 'Everywhere I insert cornel, yet a person is missing.' Taking the cable car to the top offers a panoramic view of the Taihang peaks. Shuttle buses connect various points within the scenic area, and the trails are gentle, suitable for family trips. In my opinion, if one day is not enough, first focus on the core sections of Hongshi Gorge and Monkey Valley, and leave plenty of time for the long queues for the shuttle bus; in summer it is cool and water-friendly, while in autumn the forests are colorful, each season having its own charm.

Tips: There are many slippery mountain roads, especially downhill, so keep your center of gravity back and slow down; knee pads can be prepared. Tourists generally feedback that Hongshi Gorge is widely recognized as the most photogenic section, and the cloud sea at Zhuyu Peak is also worthwhile; note that shuttle buses have long queues, so if one day is not enough, prioritize Hongshi Gorge and Monkey Valley. Based on actual conditions, if you want authentic food, walk deeper into the alleys, as the tickets and taste near the main entrance are average; for local specialties, ask for the price and compare, as local supermarkets are often more genuine.

Practical note — Return-day tip: pack ID, power bank and souvenirs the night before; allow extra time—mountain roads are unpredictable.

Three days from Luoyang, all of them about which layer of soil a thing came out of: Buddhas cut into a cliff at Longmen, a pagoda standing in a temple yard, a jade cup behind glass, and at Erlitou the rammed-earth footings of a palace that is four thousand years old.
