Day 1: Free activities

Start early in the morning at Longtan Grand Canyon, take advantage of the cool weather to stroll slowly along the creek trail; especially refreshing in summer. In the afternoon, enjoy free activities, and you can also take additional photos of the narrow sky; return in the evening.

Warm tips: On free activity days, taking a taxi or walking is convenient. Check the route to your destination in advance, and mark the stores and attractions you want to visit on the map. Visitors generally feedback that frequent travelers like to reserve free activity days for local food and streets, experiencing the most authentic city life. Based on the actual situation, respect local customs; when entering religious sites, dress appropriately and avoid pointing carelessly. A simple greeting can bring kindness in return.

Day 2: Sui-Tang Luoyang City

Today, focus on Sui-Tang Luoyang City as the theme, avoid peak hours by entering the park off-peak, and explore in depth along the recommended route; have local specialties for lunch nearby, spend the afternoon on free activities or join the guide for additional touring, and stay in a hotel in the evening to rest.

Attraction introduction: This stop brings you to Sui-Tang Luoyang City. The Sui-Tang Luoyang City National Heritage Park centers on Ying Tian Gate, Ming Tang, and Tian Tang, recreating the grandeur of the palaces in the flourishing Tang Dynasty 'Divine Capital' Luoyang. Ying Tian Gate is the south gate of Sui-Tang Luoyang City, imposing in presence; climbing up allows for a view of the central axis, and at night there is a stunning light show. Ming Tang was the 'Palace of Myriad Phenomena' during Wu Zetian’s era, while Tian Tang is the tall tower for Buddha worship. Both buildings' interiors reproduce the magnificent furnishings of Tang Dynasty palaces. Strolling by Jiuzhou Pond is also recommended to imagine the majesty of the former imperial gardens. This site is closely associated with films and TV series such as 'Wu Zetian' and 'The Rise of Luoyang', making it one of the most popular Tang culture check-in locations in recent years. My understanding is that a night visit is a must—when the lights come on at Ying Tian Gate, Ming Tang, and Tian Tang, it truly reflects the 'Divine Capital'; see the palace interiors during the day and the light show at night for two different experiences in one day.

Tips: Ancient city attractions are spread out, requiring a fair amount of walking and transfers, so wearing comfortable flat shoes and planning your route carefully is recommended. Tourists generally report that most feel Sui-Tang Luoyang City is worth visiting specifically. It is suggested to slow down, follow the guide, listen to the explanations, and leave time for the details that move you most and the best spots for photos. In practice, when taking pictures, don’t just focus on shots—pay attention to your footing and surroundings, and make sure to stand securely on viewing platforms and along boardwalk edges.

Day 3: Laojun Mountain

In the morning, take the cable car up Laojun Mountain and visit the Golden Summit Daoist Temple Complex. On clear weather days, you may encounter a sea of clouds. Have a simple meal at the mountaintop at noon. In the afternoon, walk along the Ten-Mile Painted Screen Trail, overlook the mountains from the glass viewing platform, and in the evening, descend to the hotel for check-in.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Laojun Mountain. Laojun Mountain is located in Luoyang, Luanchuan County. It is the main peak of the Funiu Mountains and a famous Taoist mountain. It is said to be the place where the Taoist founder Laozi retired to cultivate. The Golden Summit Daoist Temple Complex stands atop a peak more than 2,000 meters above sea level. The temples with golden roofs and red walls, along with the rolling sea of clouds, are praised as 'a stunning banquet of the mortal world, a glimpse of the prosperous beauty of humanity.' The Ten-Mile Painted Screen is the essence of the whole route—a high-altitude plank road suspended on an cliff changing scenery step by step, where you can take in the peaks, the sea of clouds, and the sunrise. You can take a two-stage cable car to the top. On clear days, you can watch the sea of clouds and sunrise, and in winter, it is a very popular place in central China for snow viewing. My understanding is that you must take the cable car early to secure the best lighting at the Golden Summit and the Ten-Mile Painted Screen. The mountaintop is windy and cold, so a windproof jacket and a thermal flask are essential. If you are timid, do not force yourself on the glass viewing platform.

Tips: There is a large temperature difference between morning and evening in the mountains, with strong winds at the top. A windproof jacket and warm inner layers are necessary. Tourists generally report that the sea of clouds at the Golden Summit and the sunrise are considered the main attractions, and many people stay overnight at the mountaintop to catch dawn. Be aware of the large temperature difference and long cable car queues at the top; during the peak season, it is essential to go early. Based on actual conditions, for the best photography, go early or late—the morning has fewer people and soft light, and the evening has golden glow, while at noon the light is harsh and crowded, making a break more worthwhile.

Day 4: White Horse Temple

Early in the morning, enter White Horse Temple, and take advantage of the morning light to quietly stroll among the red walls and green cypresses, focusing on the Qiyun Pagoda and the two exotic Buddhist halls; in the afternoon, enjoy free activities and you can retake photos from the central axis, returning to the hotel in the evening.

Attraction Introduction: One of the highlights arranged in the itinerary is White Horse Temple, located in the east of Luoyang city. It was originally built during the Yongping period of the Eastern Han Dynasty to commemorate the White Horse transporting the sutras and the initial spread of Buddhism in the Central Plains. It is revered as the 'First Ancient Temple in China' and is the first government-sponsored temple built after Buddhism was introduced to China. Within the temple, the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, the Great Buddha Hall, and the Heavenly King Hall are arranged along the central axis, with incense burning continuously among the red walls and green cypresses for over two thousand years. It is worth mentioning that the temple also has exotic-style Buddhist halls donated by countries such as Myanmar, Thailand, and India, presenting a unique landscape of the eastward transmission and return flow of Buddhist culture. My understanding is to first visit the main hall along the central axis, then go around to the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, and finally visit the exotic Buddhist halls on both sides to experience cultural integration; arriving early in the morning is ideal, as the morning light on the red walls and ancient cypresses is most atmospheric, and it also allows you to avoid the peak tourist crowds.

Warm Tips: There are many incense stalls around the temple, so purchase the incense as needed and consume reasonably. Visitors generally report that the foreign-style Buddhist halls (Thai/Myanmar/Indian Courtyards) are very photogenic, and visitors generally feel they are more spacious than expected; note that the international temple area requires quite a bit of walking, so save some energy. Considering practical situations, the greatest risk on long journeys is dehydration, so always carry a water bottle and drink small amounts frequently; on the first night at high altitudes or in mountainous areas, avoid washing your hair or taking long baths to give your body time to adjust.
