Day 1: Longmen Grottoes

In the morning, head to Longmen Grottoes, follow the Yihe Trail from the Xishan Grottoes to closely admire the Vairocana Buddha of Fengxian Temple, then cross the bridge to the Dongshan Buddha Platform for a panoramic view; At noon, enjoy the Luoyang water feast, visit Xiangshan Temple and Baiyuan in the afternoon, and return to the hotel in the evening.

Attraction introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Longmen Grottoes, carved into the cliffs on both banks of the Yi River south of Luoyang city. Since Emperor Xiaowen of Northern Wei moved the capital to Luoyang, construction has continued through Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi, Sui, Tang, and other dynasties. There are over 2,300 cave niches, over 100,000 statues, and more than 2,800 inscriptions and inscriptions preserved. The most impressive is the Vairocana Buddha at Fengxian Temple, standing over 17 meters tall, with a plump face and benevolent eyes. Legend has it that it was carved after Wu Zetian's likeness, marking the pinnacle of Tang dynasty stone carving art. Along with Dunhuang Mogao Caves and Datong Yungang, it is one of China's three great grottoes and a World Cultural Heritage site. When touring, head south along the Yi River trail from the Xishan Grottoes, where Binyang Three Caves, Ten Thousand Buddha Caves, and Lotus Cave each have highlights. Cross the bridge to the Dongshan Buddha Worship Platform for a panoramic view. My understanding is that in the morning, first visit the main cave of Xishan and admire the Big Buddha while there are fewer people; in the afternoon, go to the Dongshan Viewing Platform for the best lighting and angle; If you need to walk backward along both banks of the Yi River, a pair of comfortable shoes can save you a lot of effort.

Friendly reminder: Visiting the grottoes mainly involves walking and using steps. It is recommended to wear non-slip, comfortable shoes and travel light. Watch your footing on both banks of the Yi River. Visitors generally report that most find the Vairocana Buddha the most breathtaking, and the best lighting at sunset on the western hills; If you need to walk back along both banks of the Yi River, wear comfortable shoes and allow half a day. Based on the situation, don't shop impulsively. If you see a "limited-time offer," take a calm wait for three minutes; If you really want to bring souvenirs, make sure to buy a reputable store and keep your receipts for peace of mind.

Day 2: Wangcheng Park

Set off from the hotel early in the morning and head straight to Wangcheng Park. First, listen to the guide explain the background and highlights, then enjoy a leisurely tour and take photos based on your interests. After lunch, take a short rest, then return to the hotel in the evening to recharge for the next day.

Attraction introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Wangcheng Park. Wangcheng Park is located on Luoyang, named for its location atop the ruins of the Eastern Zhou royal city. It has been one of the main venues for the China Luoyang Peony Culture Festival and is the most familiar city park to Luoyang residents. Every April, famous peonies such as Yao Huang, Wei Purple, and Zhao Pink bloom in a dazzling display of vibrant colors; The park also preserves the ruins of Zhou King's City and a zoo, combining historical heritage with leisure functions, making it a classic spot for visitors to check in at the "Peony Flower City." My understanding is that if you visit during peony season (April), you must make this a must-visit spot. Early mornings with fewer people and peonies with dew are most vibrant; Outside the flowering season, it's more suitable for leisurely walks.

Friendly reminder: Food prices in the park are relatively high, so bring your own water and snacks, and keep your belongings safe. Visitors generally report that most think Wangcheng Park is worth a special trip. It's recommended to slow down, follow the guide, and listen to the explanations, saving time for the most impressive details and the best camera angles. Depending on the situation, keep your ID and wallet separate. Take photos of important documents and keep them on your phone for backup. If lost, you can quickly reissue them without delaying your trip.

Day 3: Chongdugou

Today's Chongdugou summer retreat is slow-paced, with a focus on the vast bamboo forest and waterfalls; Arrange your schedule freely in the afternoon, and stay at a farmhouse for rest in the evening.

Attraction introduction: This stop is Chongdugou. Chongdugou is located in Luanchuan, famous for its vast bamboo forests, waterfalls, and the agricultural charm of western Henan. It is one of the few "Jiangnan water town" style summer leisure spots in Henan. The scenic area is divided into Jinji River and Dicui River. Jinji River is famous for its clusters of waterfalls, with splashing water that is cool and pleasant; Dicui River is a continuous bamboo forest, with lush greenery stretching through. Here, you can stay in farmhouses, taste wild vegetables, and experience authentic mountain village life in western Henan. The pace is relaxed, making it especially suitable for family trips and summer vacations. My understanding is that slowing down the pace and not rushing to see attractions — walking through the bamboo forest or sitting by the stream is the right way to experience Chongdugou; Summer is the most comfortable, so cool you don't want to walk.

Friendly reminder: Signal inside the canyon may be poor. Agree with the guide in advance to meet at the meeting point—don't go alone. Visitors generally report that Chongdugou is worth a special trip. It's recommended to slow down and follow the guide to the explanation, saving time for the details that impress you most and the best camera angles. Depending on the situation, bring some change and small packs of snacks. These will be useful when the signal is poor or when supplies are needed—don't wait until you're hungry.
