Day 1: Wangcheng Park

Today, with Wangcheng Park as the theme, avoid peak crowd times and enter the park during off-peak hours, following the recommended route for an in-depth visit; have a local specialty meal nearby for lunch, enjoy free activities or join the guide for additional sightseeing in the afternoon, and stay at the hotel in the evening to rest.

Attraction Introduction: One of the highlights on the itinerary is Wangcheng Park. Wangcheng Park is located in Luoyang and is named after the fact that it sits atop the ruins of the Eastern Zhou royal city. It is one of the main venues for the Peony Culture Festival in Luoyang over the years, and is also the city park most familiar to Luoyang citizens. Every April, famous peonies such as Yao Huang, Wei Zi, and Zhao Fen bloom in competition, displaying a magnificent array of colors. The park also preserves the Eastern Zhou royal city ruins and a zoo, combining historical depth with leisure functions, making it a classic spot for tourists checking in at the "Peony Flower City." My understanding is that if visiting during peony season (April), this place must be included in your must-visit list; in the morning, there are fewer people, and dew-covered peonies are the most delicate. Outside of the blooming season, it is more suitable for a leisurely walk.

Tips: When visiting the park with children, pay attention to the risk of getting separated. Agree on a meeting point in advance and give the child a contact card. Tourists commonly report that most visitors think Wangcheng Park is worth visiting specifically. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide for explanations, and leave time for the details that touch you most and the best photo spots. Based on the actual situation, reserve some energy: do the highlights in the morning when you are fresh and slow down in the afternoon. Don’t exhaust yourself on the first day to avoid feeling tired for the remaining days.

Day 2: Chongdugou

Morning visit to Chongdugou, walking along the Jinji River and Dicui River to see bamboo forests and waterfalls; at noon, taste wild vegetables and farmhouse meals; in the afternoon, stroll through villages in western Henan, enjoying the coolness typical of Jiangnan water towns.

Attraction introduction: This stop is Chongdugou, Chongdugou is located in Luanchuan, known for its ten-thousand-acre bamboo forests, cascading waterfalls, and the farming culture of western Henan. It is one of the few 'Jiangnan water town'-style summer resorts in Henan. The scenic area is divided into the Jinji River and Dicui River areas. Jinji River is famous for its waterfalls, with splashing water and refreshing coolness; Dicui River is lined with continuous bamboo forests, and strolling through them is a feast of green. Here, you can stay at a farmhouse, taste wild vegetables, and experience the authentic life of a western Henan mountain village. The pace is slow, making it particularly suitable for family leisure trips and summer vacations. My understanding is to slow down and not rush to see attractions—walking in the bamboo forest and sitting by the stream is the proper way to experience Chongdugou; visiting in summer is the most comfortable, with such coolness that you won't want to leave.

Warm tips: The canyon water paths are slippery, so be sure to wear non-slip hiking or sports shoes, and protect mobile phones and other valuables from water. Visitors generally report that most believe Chongdugou is worth a special visit. It is recommended to slow down, listen to the guide's explanations, and leave time for the details that touch you the most and the best photo spots. Take the actual situation into account, respect local customs, dress appropriately when entering religious sites, and refrain from pointing or gesturing improperly—just a greeting can earn goodwill.

Day 3: Longmen Grottoes

Arrive early in the morning at Longmen Grottoes and, taking advantage of fewer people, first visit Binyang Three Caves and Lotus Cave, then climb Fengxian Temple to admire the Great Buddha. Have lunch nearby around noon, then in the afternoon visit Dongshan Grottoes and Xiangshan Temple. At sunset, take photos by the Yi River, finishing a fulfilling day.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Longmen Grottoes. Longmen Grottoes was carved on the cliffs along both sides of the Yi River south of Luoyang City. It has been continuously constructed since Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei moved the capital to Luoyang, spanning the Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi, Sui, Tang, and other dynasties. Currently, there are over 2,300 niches, more than 100,000 statues, and over 2,800 inscriptions. The most impressive is the Leshan Giant Buddha at Fengxian Temple, over 17 meters high, with a full face and eyes full of kindness, said to have been carved based on the likeness of Empress Wu Zetian. It represents the pinnacle of the stone carving art of the High Tang period. Together with the Dunhuang Mogao Caves and the Yungang Grottoes in Datong, it is considered one of China's three major grottoes and is also a World Cultural Heritage site.

When touring, start from the West Mountain Grottoes along the Yi River walkway heading south. Binyang Three Caves, Ten Thousand Buddha Cave, and Lotus Cave each have their highlights. Cross the bridge to the Dongshan Worship Terrace for a panoramic view. My understanding is that in the morning, visit the main caves of the West Mountain to enjoy the Great Buddha with fewer crowds, and in the afternoon go to the East Mountain terrace for distant views; the lighting and angles are best for photos. Walking along both sides of the Yi River requires retracing your steps, so a pair of comfortable shoes can save a lot of effort.

Tips: The grotto scenic area has strong UV rays, so on sunny days prepare a sun hat and sunscreen. The visiting route is long, so remember to stay hydrated. Visitors generally feel that the Leshan Giant Buddha is the most stunning, and the West Mountain at sunset offers the best lighting for photos. Since walking both sides of the Yi River involves retracing your steps, it is recommended to wear comfortable shoes and reserve half a day. Depending on the situation, traveling in a tour group often risks a rushed visit; listening to explanations is the essence. The cultural stories behind each attraction are often more memorable than photos. If there is anything you don't understand, ask the guide on the spot.
