Anyang 6-Day Tour: Erlitou Site & Baiyun Mountain
Anyang 6-day tour covering Erlitou Site and Baiyun Mountain and Laojun Mountain. Sightseeing tickets and shuttle bus included.
Highlights
Day 1: Erlitou
Setting off early from the hotel straight to Erlitou, first listen to the guide explain the background and highlights, then explore freely at a leisurely pace and take additional photos at spots of interest; after lunch, take a short rest, and return to the hotel in the evening to conserve energy for the next day.
Attraction Introduction: Today's itinerary includes Erlitou attractions. The Erlitou site is located in Luoyang Yanshi and is acclaimed by scholars as 'the earliest China.' It is a large urban site from the mid-to-late Xia Dynasty, and artifacts such as turquoise dragon-shaped objects, bronze jue, and bronze ding have been unearthed, revealing the appearance of the first royal capital of Hua Xia. The turquoise dragon-shaped object is made of over two thousand turquoise pieces and is known as 'Hua Xia's first dragon,' serving as an important proof of dragon worship in China. The Erlitou Site Museum presents the archaeological site vividly and is an indispensable stop for studying the origins of Chinese civilization. My understanding is that before visiting, it is better to first learn about the scholarly debates surrounding the 'Xia Capital,' and then view the exhibits for a deeper understanding; the museum's display is carefully curated and worth examining slowly.
Warm Tips: Many mountain paths can be slippery, so be especially careful when going downhill by shifting your center of gravity backward and slowing your pace; it is also advisable to bring a pair of knee pads. According to general tourist feedback, most visitors think Erlitou is worth a special trip. It is recommended to slow down, listen to the guide's explanations, and spend time on the details and photo spots that move you the most. Considering actual conditions, for the best photos, go early or late — in the early morning there are fewer people and soft light, and at dusk the golden light is the most photogenic; at noon the overhead light is harsh and crowded, so resting then is more worthwhile.
Day 2: Baiyun Mountain
Today's Baiyun Mountain vacation trip includes riding the cable car and shuttle bus to connect Yuhuangding, Jiulong Waterfall, and the Alpine Peony Garden, with a relaxed pace; free activities in the afternoon and rest at night.
Attraction Introduction: This stop is Baiyun Mountain. Baiyun Mountain is located in the heart of Funiu Mountain in Song County. From Yuhuangding, you can view the sea of clouds at sunrise. With high forest coverage and abundant negative oxygen ions, it is a natural large oxygen bar. Within the scenic area, Jiulong Waterfall and the Alpine Peony Garden each have their unique features. It is a rare mountain resort-style destination for summer cooling and autumn leaf viewing. Cable cars or shuttle buses can connect various points. The mountaintop offers broad views with clouds and mist swirling, resembling a fairyland. My understanding is that summer is the best time to visit for cooling; the cool mountain air contrasts sharply with the severe heat in the city. Getting up early to climb Yuhuangding to see the sea of clouds at sunrise requires some luck, but even if you miss the sunrise, the mountains shrouded in morning mist are beautiful enough.
Warm Tips: There are many steps and steep slopes on the hiking routes, so be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes. Those with limited mobility are advised to use the cable car both ways. Visitors generally report that most people think Baiyun Mountain is worth a special trip. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide's explanation, and leave time for the details that move you the most and the spots that make the best photos. Considering the actual situation, the biggest concern on long trips is dehydration; carry a water bottle and drink small amounts frequently. On the first night in the plateau or mountainous area, avoid washing your hair or taking long baths to give your body some time to adjust.
Day 3: Laojun Mountain
In the morning, take the cable car up Laojun Mountain and climb the Golden Summit Taoist Temple complex. If the weather is clear, you may encounter a sea of clouds. Have a simple lunch at the mountaintop at noon. In the afternoon, walk along the Ten-Mile Screen Trail, overlook the mountains from the glass viewing platform, and descend the mountain in the evening to check into the hotel.
Attraction Introduction: A highlight arranged in the itinerary is Laojun Mountain, located in Luoyang Luanchuan County. It is the main peak of the Funiu Mountains and a famous Taoist mountain. It is said to be the place where the founder of Taoism, Laozi, went into seclusion to practice. The Golden Summit Taoist Temple complex stands atop a peak over 2,000 meters above sea level. With its golden tiles and red walls, and the rolling sea of clouds, it is praised as “a feast for the eyes beyond the world, a glimpse of earthly prosperity.” The Ten-Mile Screen is the highlight of the whole trip: a high-altitude plank road suspended on a cliff, offering ever-changing views of peak forests, the sea of clouds, and the sunrise. You can take a two-stage cable car up the mountain; on clear days, you can watch the sea of clouds and sunrise from the summit. In winter, it is a very popular spot in central China for snow viewing. My understanding is that it is essential to take the cable car early to secure the best light for the Golden Summit and Ten-Mile Screen. The summit is windy and cold, so a windbreaker and a thermos are standard gear. The glass viewing platform is not recommended for the faint-hearted.
Warm Tips: There is a large temperature difference between day and night in the mountains, and the summit is exposed to strong winds, so a windproof jacket and insulating layers are necessary. Visitors generally agree that the sea of clouds and sunrise at the Golden Summit are the main highlights, and many people stay overnight on the mountain to catch dawn. Note that the temperature difference is large, and there can be long queues for the cable car, so it is essential to go early during peak season. Be mindful of the schedule, arrive five to ten minutes early for assembly, and remember that it is better for people to wait for the vehicle than for the vehicle to wait for people—do not let everyone wait for just you.
