Day 1: White Horse Temple

Today's Buddhist pilgrimage journey: Follow the guide from Qiyun Pagoda to the Sutra Treasury Hall, listening along the way, understanding two thousand years of incense offerings in China's first ancient temple; in the afternoon, stroll around the temple, and rest in the evening.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight arranged in the itinerary is White Horse Temple. Located in the east of Luoyang City, White Horse Temple was first built during the Yongping period of the Eastern Han Dynasty, in honor of the White Horse carrying the scriptures and the initial transmission of Buddhism to the Central Plains. It is revered as 'China's first ancient temple' and is the first officially established temple after Buddhism was introduced to China. Inside the temple, the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, Great Buddha Hall, and Hall of Heavenly Kings are aligned along the central axis, with incense burning continuously among red walls and cypresses for over two thousand years. Notably, the temple also has exotic-style Buddhist halls donated by countries such as Myanmar, Thailand, and India, presenting a unique landscape of Buddhism's eastward transmission and return. My understanding is to first see the main halls along the central axis, then circle around the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, and finally visit the exotic halls on the sides to experience cultural integration; it's best to come early in the morning when there are fewer people, as the morning light on the red walls and ancient cypresses is most picturesque, and it also helps avoid travel group peaks.

Tips: There are many incense stalls around the temple, so buy incense as needed and consume rationally. Visitors generally report that the exotic-style halls (Thai/Myanmar/Indian courtyards) are highly photogenic and usually feel more spacious than expected; note that the international temple area requires quite a bit of walking, so save some energy. Considering actual conditions, long trips are most prone to dehydration, so carry a water bottle and drink small amounts frequently; on the first night in plateau or mountainous areas, avoid washing your hair or taking long baths to give your body some time to adjust.

Day 2: Wangcheng Park

Assemble in the morning and set off for Wangcheng Park, follow the guide along the main route, visiting each key spot one by one, leaving plenty of time for photos and rest; have a lunch of local specialties at noon, continue exploring in the afternoon, and check into the hotel in the evening to rest and recharge for the next day’s itinerary.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight arranged in the itinerary is Wangcheng Park. Wangcheng Park is located in Luoyang and is named after being situated on the ruins of the Eastern Zhou royal city. It has been one of the main venues for the China Luoyang Peony Culture Festival for many years and is also the city park most familiar to Luoyang residents. Every April, the famous peonies in the park such as Yaohuang, Weizi, and Zhaofen bloom in succession, displaying a magnificent array of colorful flowers. The park also preserves the Zhou royal city ruins and a zoo, combining historical heritage with recreational functions, making it a classic spot for visitors to check out the "Peony Flower City." In my understanding, if visiting during peony season (April), this place must be on your list. Early in the morning there are fewer people, and the peonies with morning dew are the most beautiful. Outside the flowering season, it is more suitable for a leisurely walk.

Tips: Popular attractions in the park often have long queues. Upon entering, first get a map and show schedule, and prioritize the attractions you must play. Tourists generally feedback that most believe Wangcheng Park is worth a special visit. It is recommended to slow down, listen to the guide, and leave time for the details that move you the most and the best photo spots. Depending on the actual situation, be punctual, arrive five to ten minutes early for gatherings; it’s better for people to wait for the vehicle than for the vehicle to wait for one person, don’t make everyone wait for you.

Day 3: Free activities

Early in the morning, enter the cave and stroll inside the temperature-controlled cave to admire the spectacular stalactites under changing lights; in the afternoon, enjoy free activities and take the opportunity to photograph the vegetation outside the cave, then return in the evening.

Friendly tips: Free activities are suitable for catching up on sleep and leisurely walks. It is recommended to rest in the morning and explore or eat in the afternoon according to your interests, and avoid staying out too late in the evening to not affect the next day's schedule. Visitors generally report that many feel the day of free activities is the most relaxing day, allowing them to go at their own pace. Considering practical situations, long journeys are most affected by dehydration, so carry a water bottle and drink small amounts frequently. On the first night at high altitudes or in mountainous areas, avoid washing your hair or bathing too long, giving your body some time to adapt.
