Day 1: Free activities

Early in the morning, enter the cave and stroll inside the temperature-controlled cavern to see the stalactite wonders illuminated by changing lights; in the afternoon, enjoy free activities, and you can also take additional photos of the vegetation outside the cave, then return in the evening.

Helpful tips: On free activity days, taking a taxi or walking is convenient. Check your destination routes in advance and mark the shops and attractions you want to visit on a map. Many tourists generally feel that free activity days are the most relaxing, allowing them to go at their own pace. Considering actual conditions, mountain weather can change quickly, so a windproof jacket is more practical than anything else; make sure to wear non-slip and comfortable shoes. It's better to take fewer photos than to twist your ankle.

Meals: Meals on your own

Day 2: White Horse Temple

Today's pilgrimage journey involved visiting the Buddha, following the guide from Qiyun Pagoda to the Sutra Repository while listening to explanations, understanding two thousand years of incense history at China's first ancient temple; in the afternoon we strolled around the temple, and in the evening we rested.

Attraction introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is White Horse Temple. White Horse Temple is located in the eastern part of Luoyang city. It was originally built during the Yongping years of the Eastern Han Dynasty to commemorate the White Horse carrying the scriptures and the initial spread of Buddhism to the Central Plains. It is revered as "China's first ancient temple" and is the first official temple built after Buddhism entered China. Inside the temple, the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, the Great Buddha Hall, and the Hall of Heavenly Kings are arranged along the central axis, with incense continuing for over two thousand years among the red walls and green cypress trees. Notably, the temple also has foreign-style Buddhist halls donated by Myanmar, Thailand, India, and other countries, presenting a unique scene of Buddhism's eastward transmission and return. My understanding is that when entering the temple, first visit the main halls along the central axis, then circle to the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, and finally go to the exotic Buddhist halls on either side to experience cultural integration; coming in the early morning when there are fewer people, with morning light falling on the red walls and ancient cypresses, is the most poetic and also allows you to avoid the peak of tour groups.

Friendly reminders: There are many incense vendors around the temple, so purchase incense as needed and consume rationally. Visitors generally report that the exotic-style Buddhist halls (Thai/Myanmar/Indian courtyards) are photogenic, and people find them more spacious than expected. Note that the international temple area requires a fair amount of walking, so save some energy. Depending on your needs, for authentic food, head deeper into the alleys, as queues at the main scenic gate are long and the taste is average. For local specialties, ask for prices first and compare; local supermarkets often provide more authentic products.
