Day 1: Laojun Mountain

In the morning, take the cable car up Laojun Mountain and visit the Golden Summit Daoist Temple Complex. On clear weather days, you may encounter a sea of clouds. Have a simple meal at the mountaintop at noon. In the afternoon, walk along the Ten-Mile Painted Screen Trail, overlooking the mountains from the glass viewing platform, and in the evening, descend to the hotel for check-in.

Attraction Introduction: A highlight of the itinerary is Laojun Mountain. Laojun Mountain is located in Luoyang, Luanchuan County. It is the main peak of the Funiu Mountains and a famous Taoist mountain. It is said to be the place where the Taoist founder Laozi retired to cultivate. The Golden Summit Daoist Temple Complex stands atop a peak more than 2,000 meters above sea level. The temples with golden roofs and red walls, along with the rolling sea of clouds, are praised as 'a stunning banquet of the mortal world, a glimpse of the prosperous beauty of humanity.' The Ten-Mile Painted Screen is the essence of the whole route—a high-altitude plank road suspended on an cliff changing scenery step by step, where you can take in the peaks, the sea of clouds, and the sunrise. You can take a two-stage cable car to the top. On clear days, you can watch the sea of clouds and sunrise, and in winter, it is a very popular place in central China for snow viewing. My understanding is that you must take the cable car early to secure the best lighting at the Golden Summit and the Ten-Mile Painted Screen. The mountaintop is windy and cold, so a windproof jacket and a thermal flask are essential. If you are timid, do not force yourself on the glass viewing platform.

Friendly Tips: There is a large temperature difference between morning and evening in the mountains. The mountaintop is windy, so a windproof jacket and warm inner layers are necessary. Visitors generally report that the sea of clouds and sunrise at the Golden Summit are considered the main attractions, and many people stay overnight at the mountaintop to catch dawn. Be aware of the large temperature difference and long cable car queues; during peak season, it is essential to go early. Depending on the actual situation, when traveling in a group, the worst thing is to rush through; listening to the guide is the essence. The cultural stories behind each attraction are often more memorable than photographs, and if you don't understand something, ask the guide on the spot.

Day 2: Baiyun Mountain

Early in the morning, climb Yu Huang Ding first to watch the sea of clouds at sunrise, and then visit the Nine Dragon Waterfall; in the afternoon, take a leisurely walk along the forest trails, cool off in summer, or enjoy the red leaves in autumn, returning in the evening.

Attraction Introduction: This stop is at Baiyun Mountain, located in the Funiu Mountains in Song County. Yu Huang Ding offers views of the sea of clouds at sunrise. With high forest coverage and abundant negative ions, it is a natural oxygen bar. The scenic area features the Nine Dragon Waterfall and the High Mountain Peony Garden, each with its own characteristics. It is a rare mountain resort-style destination for cooling off in summer and viewing red leaves in autumn. You can connect various points by cable car or scenic shuttle bus. The mountaintop provides a wide expanse of view with mist swirling around, resembling a fairyland. In my view, summer is the best time to escape the heat; the coolness in the mountains contrasts sharply with the city’s intense heat. Rising early to climb Yu Huang Ding for the sea of clouds at sunrise requires a bit of luck, but even if you miss the sunrise, the morning mist over the mountains is already beautiful enough.

Tips: Many mountain paths are slippery, especially downhill, so pay attention to shifting your weight backward and slowing your pace; knee pads are advisable. Visitors generally feel that Baiyun Mountain is worth a special trip. It is recommended to slow down, follow a guide for explanations, and leave time for the details that move you most and the most photogenic spots. Depending on your own situation, if you want authentic local food, go deeper into the alleys, as the lines and taste at the main scenic entrance are average. Ask for prices and compare before buying specialty products; local supermarkets often provide more authentic items.

Day 3: Sui-Tang Luoyang City

Today, with Sui-Tang Luoyang City as the theme, avoid peak crowds and enter the park during off-peak hours, following the recommended route for an in-depth visit; have lunch nearby to enjoy local flavors, spend the afternoon on free activities or join the guide for additional sightseeing, and check in at the hotel in the evening to rest.

Attractions Introduction: This stop is Sui-Tang Luoyang City. The Sui-Tang Luoyang City National Heritage Park centers around Yingtian Gate, Mingtang, and Tiantang, recreating the grandeur of the palaces in the prosperous Tang Dynasty 'Divine Capital' Luoyang. Yingtian Gate serves as the main southern gate of Sui-Tang Luoyang City, majestic in scale; climbing the tower allows a view down the central axis, and at night there is a stunning light show. Mingtang was the 'Palace of Ten Thousand Phenomena' during Empress Wu Zetian's era, while Tiantang is a tall tower for Buddhist rituals. The interiors of both buildings recreate the luxurious furnishings of a Tang Dynasty court. Strolling by Jiuzhou Pool is also pleasant, evoking the grandeur of the imperial gardens of the time. This location is closely associated with TV dramas such as "Wu Zetian" and "The Wind Rises in Luoyang," making it one of the most popular Tang culture attractions in Luoyang in recent years. My understanding is that it is essential to visit at night—the lights of Yingtian Gate and Mingtang-Tiantang show what the 'Divine Capital' truly looks like when illuminated. See the palace furnishings during the day and enjoy the light show at night for two different experiences in one day.

Tips: Attractions in the ancient capital are spread out, requiring a lot of walking and transfers, so wearing comfortable flat shoes and planning your route is recommended. Tourists generally report that most visitors think Sui-Tang Luoyang City is worth a special trip; it's advisable to slow down, follow the guide, and listen to explanations, allowing time for the details that move you most and the best photo opportunities. Based on actual conditions, manage your energy wisely: tackle the main attractions in the morning when you are fresh and slow down in the afternoon to avoid exhausting yourself on the first day and losing energy for the following days.
