Day 1: Chongdugou

Today's summer escape trip follows a relaxed pace, focusing on the vast bamboo forests and cascading waterfalls; the afternoon is free for your own arrangements, and in the evening, you will stay at a farmhouse to rest.

Attraction Introduction: This stop is Chongdugou, located in Luanchuan. It is known for its extensive bamboo forests, waterfalls, and streams, as well as the farming culture of western Henan. It is one of the few 'Jiangnan water town' style summer retreat destinations in the area. The scenic area is divided into the Jinji River and the Dicui River zones. Jinji River is famous for its waterfalls, with splashing water that is refreshing and pleasant; Dicui River features continuous bamboo forests, creating a sea of greenery as you stroll. Here, you can stay in farmhouses, taste wild mountain vegetables, and experience authentic village life in western Henan. The pace is relaxed, making it especially suitable for slow-paced family trips and summer vacations. My understanding is to slow down and not rush through the sights—walking in the bamboo forest or sitting by the stream is the right way to enjoy Chongdugou; visiting in summer is the most comfortable, as it is so cool you won't want to leave.

Tips: The canyon trails are next to water and cliffs, so do not climb over railings or play in dangerous areas, and keep a close watch on children. Most visitors generally feel that Chongdugou is worth visiting specifically; it is recommended to slow down, listen to the guide's explanations, and leave time for the details that move you most and the best photo spots. Respect local customs according to the actual situation; dress appropriately when entering religious sites and do not point carelessly—a simple greeting can be met with kindness.

Day 2: White Horse Temple

Morning tour: Start from the Shanmen (Mountain Gate) and the Hall of Heavenly Kings, proceed along the central axis to the Great Buddha Hall for a detailed look, then visit the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard; at noon, try local dishes, and in the afternoon, visit Buddhist halls with Burmese and Indian styles to experience the exotic charm of this ancient temple.

Attraction introduction: One key highlight arranged in the itinerary is the temple, located in the eastern part of the city, originally built during the Yongping era of the Eastern Han Dynasty to commemorate the transporting of sutras on white horses and the initial spread of Buddhism to the Central Plains. It is honored as 'China's First Ancient Temple' and is the first government-established temple built after Buddhism was introduced to China. Within the temple, the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, Great Buddha Hall, and Hall of Heavenly Kings are laid out along the central axis, with incense floating amid red walls and green cypresses for over two thousand years. It is worth mentioning that the temple also has Buddhist halls built in foreign styles by donors from countries such as Myanmar, Thailand, and India, presenting a unique scene of the spread and return of Buddhist culture. My understanding is to first view the main halls along the central axis, then circle to the Qiyun Pagoda Courtyard, and finally visit the exotic Buddhist halls on both sides to feel the cultural integration; arriving early in the morning is ideal, as the soft morning light on the red walls and ancient cypresses creates a poetic atmosphere and avoids the peak of tour groups.

Tips: There are many incense stalls around the temple, so buy incense as needed and consume reasonably. Visitors generally note that foreign-style Buddhist halls (Thai, Burmese, Indian courtyards) are highly photogenic and seem more spacious than expected; note that walking in the international temple area can be long, so prepare your stamina. Depending on the situation, group tours should avoid a rushed, superficial visit; listening to the commentary is the essence. The cultural stories behind each attraction are often more unforgettable than photos, so ask the guide immediately if you don’t understand something.

Day 3: Mount Song

Set off from the hotel early in the morning directly to Mount Song. First, listen to the tour guide's explanation of the background and highlights, then explore at your own pace and take additional photos at spots that interest you. After lunch, take a short rest, return to the hotel in the evening, and save energy for the next day.

Attraction Introduction: A major highlight on the itinerary is Mount Song. Mount Song is the central peak among the Five Great Mountains, mainly located in Dengfeng City, and divided into the Taishi and Shaoshi Mountains, with the main peak, Junji Peak, reaching an altitude of about 1,492 meters. Its most special feature is that Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism have coexisted on the same mountain for a thousand years: Songyang Academy was a key center for Neo-Confucianism during the Song Dynasty, and the famous story of "Cheng Men Li Xue" is said to have happened here; Zhongyue Temple is one of the largest and best-preserved temple complexes among the Five Great Mountains; the Astronomical Observatory in Gaocheng Town, built under the supervision of Guo Shoujing in the Yuan Dynasty, is one of the oldest existing astronomical observation structures. In 2010, the "Center of Heaven and Earth" historical building complex, represented by Songyang Academy, Zhongyue Temple, Songyue Temple Pagoda, Shaolin Temple Permanent Abbey, Pagoda Forest, Chuzu Ancestral Temple, and the Astronomical Observatory, was inscribed on the World Heritage List. My understanding is that on the first day, there is no need to rush—first visit the academy and Zhongyue Temple to understand the ceremonial framework of the "Center of Heaven and Earth" and save your energy for climbing the mountains later; if there is extra time, you can go to the Shaoshi Mountain Sanhuangzhai plank road in the evening to watch the sunset, which is the most photogenic part of the trip.

Tips: The hiking sections have many steps and steep slopes, so be sure to wear non-slip sports shoes. Those with mobility issues are advised to use the cableway. Visitors generally feel that most people believe Mount Song is worth a special trip. It is recommended to slow down, follow the guide for explanations, and leave time for the details and photo spots that impress you most. According to the actual situation, if you want authentic food, go deeper into the alleys, as the lines at the main entrance are long and the taste is average; for local specialties, ask the price first and then compare, as local supermarkets often offer more genuine products.
