Day 1 Wangcheng Park – National Flower Garden – Luoyi Ancient City

Morning peonies at Wangcheng Park, afternoon varieties at China National Flower Garden; evening stroll in Luoyi Ancient City. Overnight in Luoyang. [Attraction guide] [Wangcheng Park (Peony)] Wangcheng Park in central Luoyang is one of the city's oldest peony gardens, with Zhou royal-city ruins and a zoo; each April during the festival tens of thousands of peonies (Yao Huang, Wei Zi…) bloom. The peony area near Chenxiang Pavilion is the densest. Peonies only bloom in April (peak mid-month); off-season is ruins and zoo only, fairly plain; peak season is crowded with hard parking—go early; timed tickets in bloom. The most convenient city peony pick, with concentrated famous varieties and easy access—skip off-season, a must in bloom. For fewer people, enter at opening or on a weekday. [China National Flower Garden] China National Flower Garden in Luoyang's Sui–Tang ruins botanical area is a large dedicated peony garden with the widest variety, by the Luo River—a top spring peony spot. The concentrated variety zones and riverside paths are the best, and it pairs with Longmen Grottoes. Blooms only in April; big garden, wear good shoes; crowded at peak, go early; choose between this and Wangcheng Park or do both; bring water. The most complete peony collection—a photographer's pick for all famous varieties in one place, more "specialty garden + river view" than Wangcheng; skip off-season.

Day 2 Longmen Grottoes – Transfer out

Morning at Longmen Grottoes for the Vairocana Buddha and Binyang Caves; afternoon drop-off per your return schedule. [Attraction guide] [Longmen Grottoes] On both banks of the Yi River south of Luoyang, Longmen Grottoes is one of China's three great grottoes and a World Heritage site. West Hill is the highlight, with the Vairocana Buddha, Binyang Caves and Wanfo Cave; East Hill has the Xiangshan Temple and Bai Garden (Bai Juyi's tomb). The grandeur of the Vairocana Buddha is something you only truly feel in person. Strong sun—hat, shades, water; many steps and ramps, wear good shoes; East Hill is quiet, skip if short on time; take a guide to understand it, and go early in peak season; the night tour is a separate timed ticket. A Luoyang must-see: allow half a day with a guide, detail West Hill and glance East Hill; soft evening light is best for photos, avoid midday heat.
