Day 1 Luoyang – Longtan Grand Canyon

Drive to Longtan Grand Canyon in Xin’an, walking the red-rock gorges and narrow sky fissure, seeing the “water flows upward” wonder. Overnight near the site. [Attraction guide] [Longtan Grand Canyon] Longtan Grand Canyon in Xin'an (Luoyang) is a 5A core of the Daimei Global Geopark, famed for red-rock barrier gorges. The "One-Line-Sky" fissure, Five-Dragon Pools and the odd "water flows upward" phenomenon earn it the name "China's No.1 barrier-canyon." Long unsheltered trail—non-slip shoes and plenty of water; strong midday sun in summer, bring shade; slippery at the bottom, hold rails; not the Jingzichuan town, don't confuse; a full-day hike, pace yourself. A geology lover's spot with unique red-rock-and-clear-water scenery—leg-tiring but wonder-dense. Travel light, start early, take the whole day; with elders/kids, slow down and play in the water.

Day 2 Baiyun Mountain

Full day at Baiyun Mountain in Songxian, climb Jade Emperor Peak for the sea of clouds and visit the waterfall groups. Overnight near Baiyun/Songxian. [Attraction guide] [Baiyun Mountain (Henan)] Baiyun Mountain in Songxian (Luoyang) is a Funiu nature reserve with several peaks above 1,500 m, including "Central Plains' No.1 Peak" Jade Emperor Peak, Nine-Dragon Falls, primeval forest and alpine peonies—famous for sea of clouds and wellness. The Jade Emperor Peak sunrise and the Nine-Dragon Falls are the highlights. Mountain weather changes fast—wind/rain jacket and a light layer; cable car plus trails, pace by altitude; far away, stay a night for sunrise; book lodging early in peak season; bring motion-sickness meds for the winding road. A Central Plains summer retreat—the sea-of-clouds sunrise is the gem, worth an overnight, and like my favorite mountains, best enjoyed slowly. Two days one night is ideal: waterfalls/forest day one, Jade Peak sunrise day two; beautiful off-season too, but summer is prime.

Meals: Breakfast included
Accommodation: Comfortable hotel near Baiyun/Songxian

Day 3 Baiyun Mountain – Longmen – Return to Luoyang

Morning more of Baiyun Mountain, then return via Longmen Grottoes for a quick visit; back to Luoyang in the evening. [Longmen Grottoes] On both banks of the Yi River south of Luoyang, Longmen Grottoes is one of China's three great grottoes and a World Heritage site. West Hill is the highlight, with the Vairocana Buddha, Binyang Caves and Wanfo Cave; East Hill has the Xiangshan Temple and Bai Garden (Bai Juyi's tomb). The grandeur of the Vairocana Buddha is something you only truly feel in person. Strong sun—hat, shades, water; many steps and ramps, wear good shoes; East Hill is quiet, skip if short on time; take a guide to understand it, and go early in peak season; the night tour is a separate timed ticket. A Luoyang must-see: allow half a day with a guide, detail West Hill and glance East Hill; soft evening light is best for photos, avoid midday heat.
